The alarm runs entirely in this page, so it needs the tab to stay open — closing it cancels the alarm. Browsers also block audio until you have interacted with the page, which pressing the set button satisfies. For anything you genuinely cannot miss, use a device alarm as well.

Why did no sound play?
Browsers block audio until you interact with a page. Pressing the set button counts, so an alarm you have set yourself will normally sound.
Can I set more than one alarm?
One at a time on this page. Setting a new alarm replaces the previous one.
